Robert W. Good

U.S. Veteran

Robert W. Good, 90, of San Antonio, passed away June 26, 2012. He was born on Dec. 30, 1921 to Frank B. & Carrie Maude Parr Good Sr. in Breckenridge, TX. He graduated from Hallettsville High School in 1939. He attended Southwest Texas Teachers College in San Marcos, and Trinity University in San Antonio. Robert married Dorothy Dunn Butchee’ in 1949. Dorothy preceded Robert in death having died on October 27, 2008. They were married for 59 years.

Robert served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII, as a radio operator on C-47 aircraft, hauling supplies and dropping paratroopers in New Guinea and the Philippines. He participated in the paratroop drop that rescued Corregidor from the Japanese. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze stars for the Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, Southern Philippines, and Luzon Campaigns; the Philippine Liberation Medal with one bronze star for participating in two of three Campaigns; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Air Medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters.

Robert was a logistic supervisor at Kelly AFB, and managed spare parts for B-58 and C5A aircrafts. He served two terms as president of Highlands Southeast Optimist Club, and several terms as secretary. He also served several terms as secretary of Alamo Cosmopolitan Club, and past president of Herman Sons Merchant’s Bowling League. Robert was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, NARFE Chapter 1320, and the American Legion Post 592.

Robert and Dorothy both loved country music and would often stop by Nashville, TN and Branson, MO, to attend country music shows. After retirement, Robert established and conducted a year around garden on his small farm.

Robert is survived by: three sons, James Butchee’ & wife Linda of Wylie, TX, Robert Ray Good & wife Kay of Leander, TX, Martin Good & wife Barbara of Seguin; daughter Carol Ann Boeck of Pflugerville; brother George T. Good of Sun City, CA; sister Clarice Ivy of Houston; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by: his wife Dorothy; parents; brother Frank B. Good Jr.; and son-in-law Jack Boeck. 

Funeral Service: 2 pm, Saturday, June 30, 2012, at Kubena Funeral Home of Hallettsville. Visitation: 12 (Noon), Saturday at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Rev. Kenny Hodges. Pallbearers: James Good, Jim Butchee’, Kenneth Pyle, Daniel Hernandez, Dustin Ortiz, and Markus Good. Burial: Salem Cemetery, Ezzell, TX.  Memorials: American Diabetes Association or Salem Baptist Church.
