Our Family

A nton John Kubena was born in 1893 in Lavaca County, Texas. In 1909 Anton’s teacher, Mrs. Bertha Earthman, acquired Anton employment at her relative’s business – Earthman Funeral Home of Houston, Texas – as a stable hand to care for the white horses that were used for the hearse. He earned his Embalmer License on May 22, 1915.

On May 1926 Anton stared the Kubena Funeral Home in Hallettsville, with his first funeral on July 7, 1926. He married Agnes Emilia Linhart on May 26, 1930, in Hallettsville. Anton received his Funeral Director License on Sep. 10, 1935 and Agnes received hers Funeral Director License on May 14, 1938. Anton and Agnes had two sons, Robert A. Kubena and Daniel H. Kubena.

Daniel received his Funeral Director License on Aug. 3, 1956 and Embalmer License on July 11, 1957; with his wife Barbara receiving her Funeral Director License on Aug. 4, 1958. Robert received his Funeral Director License on Oct. 25, 1960.

Dan and Barbara’s oldest son Eugene A. Kubena came into the business and received his Embalmer/Funeral Director License on Sep. 21, 1992. Eugene’s daughter Alison Kubena came into the business and received her Embalmer/Funeral Director License on Aug. 15, 2001. Dan and Barbara’s youngest son Andy Kubena came into the business and receiving his Embalmer/Funeral Director License on Aug. 2006.

Dan and Barbara has also reestablished Anton’s love for Registered Hereford Cattle. They sell high quality Registered Hereford cattle all over the United States.

This is one family business that takes pride in their service to the community.
